PSST, HERE'S SOME VALUABLE TIPS!

From the current Freaky Styley Summner of Skins Champion, many times NZ Champs, Mr Disc Golf himself: Bob Gentil

Today's Tips: Don't miss the next Disc Golf Tournament!

Play every practise game as though you are competing.
Use a marker; make sure your foot is on the mark, not to the side, not to the back, but where it must be if you were playing a tournament round.. [We will be playing the played disc as a marker rule, but if you want to touch it, you must mark it.]
No falling putts, [i.e. inside 10 meters you can't follow through.]
No casual shots with your bag or discs in your other hand.
Sort out your putting style and stick to it - don't make disc or style changes to close to a tournament.
Putt at chain height, if you're playing on object courses don't be happy with putts that hit low or high. Concentrate on sending your putts into imaginary chains.
Decide what discs you're going to use and become as familiar as possible with them. Sleep with them if need be [I do every night anyway].
The idea is that when you start competition it feels like your just doing what you always do on the course.
Know the PDGA/WFDF rules .. What you can and can't carry in your bag, how long you can wait on the Tee or to play your shot etc. If you are unsure; ask.

What to bring to a Tournament

A pencil, preferably one with an eraser attached.
Disc Towels, one to start the round with and one wrapped in a plastic bag just in case you need a fresh/dry one later in the round

Spare discs; it would be a shame to loose your favourite putter during the first round and not have a replacement you felt comfortable with.
Rainwear. Not that it's going to rain but in the event it does you'll need to have something you feel comfortable to play in.
Decent golf shoes. If it's fine you will probably get away with sport shoes; even bare feet Dave, but I would recommend a pair of shoes with a touch rugby type of sole.
Sun block, the tournament will provide factor 30 at DG HQ but if you're likely to want to apply block out on the course bring some.
The right attitude. Shit happens, especially in golf. Don't let it ruin your or any one else's tournament.

Trophies, if you won an NZFDA perpetual trophy at Nationals in 2002, clean it up and bring it along, even if you're planning on taking it home with you again this year.
